Drupal, here we come!

It took a while (read forever), but we finally have a Defensio plugin for Drupal. Thanks to Hideki Ito, the developer, without whom, this would probably have taken another eternity.

Download it here: Defensio Module for Drupal

EC2 outage

Hello all,

Amazon, our hosting provider, is currently having problems and we're suffering from it. A very important piece of our "puzzle" is unreachable. We have already communicated with Amazon to resolve the problem.

I'll post updates on Twitter. Sorry about the inconvenience.

UPDATE: We're back up and running. Thank you for your patience!

UPDATE 2: Spoke too soon...

UPDATE 3: Things have stabilized.

UPDATE 4: Everything's back to normal!

Little hickup, everything back to normal

One of our servers has been acting funny during the past few hours, which may (or may not) have led to some spam getting through or hitting your moderation queue.

Everything's now back to normal.  We're terribly sorry about that and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Seth Godin invented Defensio! (not really)

Marketing guru and best selling author Seth Godin recently blogged about his distaste for the alphabet. Well, not so much that he doesn't like the alphabet per se, but that alphabetical order is rarely the right way to order things in a digital world. He even brings up the example of the spambox, which he suggests should be -- wait for it -- ordered by "least likely to be spam to most likely"!

Umm, yeah - we call it spaminess, and it's been baked right into Defensio's spam-filtering DNA since day one. We strongly believe that sorting by "spaminess" is the right way to avoid missing out on important comments that might rarely wrongly find their way into your spambox. Seth apparently agrees.

I know, I know. Some of you may accuse us of stealing Seth's idea, traveling to the past in a time machine, creating Defensio, and then returning to the present, in order to smugly pat our genius-selves on the back... and you may very well be right.

We don't divulge any spam-thwarting secrets ;)

Defensio & Mephisto: a marriage made in heaven

If you're on Mephisto, you'll be happy to know that François Beausoleil just integrated support for Defensio directly into Mephisto... No more plugin to install! While it has not been merged to the official Mephisto repository yet, François invites Rick Olson (author of Mephisto) to do so.

If you can't wait (and I know you can't!), you can just pull from François' Git repository. You'll find the instructions and explanations here.

Thanks for the support, François!
